Hallmarked Palladium Wedding Rings

At long last palladium can now be hallmarked.    It has been a long time coming, but this is a welcome development, as it confirms palladium’s status as a precious metal, and it should differentiate it in the mind of the public from base metals such as titanium.

Aurum designer-jewellers offers hallmarked platinum wedding rings and engagement rings, and from now on, all of our palladium jewellery will bear the London Hallmark.

 Palladium is  a less expensive alternative to platinum, especially for mens wedding rings. It is naturally white (unlike white gold) and does not require rhodium plating, and it is also very tough and hardwearing. It is less dense, so therefore lighter than platinum.

The latest addition to our popular Flick engagement ring range is the Hug. It has the usual flat edge to sit with a straight wedding ring, but the shoulders wrap around to hug the diamond.

Re-modelling your old Jewellery

If you have items of jewellery that you don’t wear what should you do with it? You could sell it, but then it may include old family pieces, with a lot of sentimental value, and you can’t bring yourself to get rid of it, so you just leave it sitting there year after year. Have you ever thought about having these old pieces re-modelled? Our jewellery designers are frequently asked to redesign clients’ old jewellery. This might involve taking a large item, and turning it into several smaller pieces that would be more wearable, and perhaps shared around the family. In other instances it can mean taking a collection of insignificant bits and pieces, (broken chains, odd earrings, spare bracelet links, and just any item of jewellery that does not get worn because it is old-fashioned or doesn’t fit) and combining them into something more worthwhile. In either case, the process is similar; we take the items, clean and check them, unset any gemstones, remove any not-precious metal parts,  weigh and then melt down the remaining precious metal, which can then be turned into whatever is required, and the diamonds or other gems are re-set. The client still has the materials from the sentimentally valuable pieces, but they have been transformed into a beautiful new piece of contemporary jewellery that they will enjoy wearing. 

Most people have bits and pieces of unwanted jewellery tucked away in a drawer, that they could be wearing, and enjoying.  Our craftsmen work in gold and platinum, and we are always happy to discuss using clients’ own materials.  If you don’t have enough gold to make what you have in mind, we can supply whatever is needed, but you will be making use of your unwanted pieces and saving money, a well as creating a little extra space in your drawer!

The Flick engagement ring

Our signature style, the ‘Flick’ is our signature style contemporary engagement ring 

It was inspired by the classic ‘single-stone crossover’ engagement ring, which has been around forever, and is a lovely style, but because the shoulders wrap around the setting, it does not always sit well with a straight wedding ring.
The Flick is designed with one straight side that sits perfectly with a straight band, so the stone is pushed down the finger, and one shoulder ‘flicks’ down to meet it – hence the name.

Aurum designer-jewellers has been trading since 1985.  We are a very small  company of jewellery designers based in Worthing, West Sussex, specialising in handmade contemporary jewellery in platinum, gold and diamonds, which we design and make in our on-site workshop. We don’t employ any sales staff, so all our customers deal direct with one of our skilled jewellery designers and goldsmiths, who are able to answer technical questions, offer expert advice and guide them through the design process. We love making beautiful handmade jewellery. It is more than just a job to us, and we always strive to create beautiful contemporary jewellery that exceeds expectations. Much of our work is designed and made for special occasions, including  engagement rings and wedding rings,  eternity rings which are often for a special anniversary or birth of a child, christening gifts, and birthday and christmas presents, which can include all of the above, and also diamond earrings and pendants, platinum and gold bangles, cufflinks and men’s jewellery of all kinds.
